Nearly a decade ago, developer FDG Entertainment released a charming endless runner called Banana Kong. Now, after so much time, the sequel has finally arrived and it’s simply named Banana Kong 2. If you’ve played a 2D endless runner before, something like Jetpack Joyride perhaps, you’ll know exactly what you’re in for.
However, that’s not to say that Banana Kong 1 or 2 are samey and not of note, as they both do a lot to differentiate themselves from the crowd. From the lovely art style that seems more than a little inspired by Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, specifically the excellent original soundtrack that keeps the drums pumping and makes sure you are absolutely in the action without a second of boredom.

Combine those unique factors into what is generally a solid entry into the genre and you’ve got a recipe for success. And for those of you Banana Kong 1 fans who haven’t gotten any new big content drops since the Fall of 2016, this is surely relieving news to know that not only are you getting that new content, but you’re getting it in the form of a fully revamped sequel with a refined engine and even lovelier visuals.
The art style is pretty much the only significant difference between the two aside from a light dash of new features and, of course, new environments to run through, as Banana Kong 2 switches the look from the sort of cartoony vibe of the prequel to a full 3D sort of style. Besides that though, if you enjoyed the first, you’re almost assuredly gonna love the second.
The same goes for any fans of the endless runner genre in general. If you’re excited to get your hands on Banana Kong 2, you can pre-order it now on the App Store and Google Play.
