Indie developer Jussi Simpanen, otherwise known as Adventure Islands, has revealed their latest project; a puzzle platformer called Tightrope Theatre. Featuring plenty of challenging stages in which you take on the role of a clown in a circus navigating nightmarish obstacles like lava pools, cannon balls, and spike traps, your reflexes and your general skills will be challenged at nearly every stage.
With a pedigree of some really solid mobile indie releases including Tiny Dangerous Dungeons, Heart Star, and Duke Dashington, to see Adventure Islands up and about again with this new game is very exciting idea. After refining their skills with so many releases under their belt, it’s exciting to see exactly how tight Tightrope Theatre will control. And judging by the reveal trailer, if you’re a fan of the old-school one-room-based platformers, you’ll find a lot to love here.

In Tightrope Theatre, you’ll be using a clown on a unicycle to navigate a ton of dangerous stages that feature hazards upon hazards as you clear stage after stage until you beat the game. It’s a fairly simple premise, mainly focused on timing your jumps and avoiding those obstacles, but simply does not mean easy in this case, as Tightrope Theatre looks to be intentionally rather difficult, also harkening back to those old-school puzzle platformers.
If you’ve enjoyed Adventure Islands’ other projects, you’ll very likely find yourself enamoured with this one as well. It features a lot of similar ideas, lots of platforming, challenging stages, and a wonderful pixel art style to go along with it. If you’re looking to get your hands on Tightrope Theatre, you won’t be waiting long, as it will drop on iOS and Android on August 11th.
